About The Role

Would you like to make a meaningful contribution to wetland conservation? 
 
WWT Welney is seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to support the running of this remarkable RAMSAR, SPA, and SSSI wetland site in Norfolk. 
 
WWT Welney takes in 700ha of the northernmost part of the Ouse Washes supporting countless wetland species including breeding populations of black-tailed godwit, lapwing, redshank and snipe and attracting mass winter gatherings of many thousands of wild ducks and swans. With its modern visitor centre, WWT Welney is the gateway to Norfolk and the Ouse Washes
 
Your role will be varied including biological recording and surveying, habitat management, estate maintenance and livestock management. You will also play a key role in running guided walks, assisting with events and to promote and supervise volunteers.
 
This is a permanent, full time role working 37.5 hours a week, 5 days out of 7 including weekends and bank holidays.

About You

As our Assistant Warden you will:
 
  • bring a good mix of practical conservation and engagement experience 
  • bring knowledge of UK wetland species to support the onsite species monitoring
  • be a people person, who can work within a small team and confidently engage with the public
The ideal candidate will have a passion for wildlife conservation, willingness to learn and experience within the field.
 
This role requires the post holder to have a full driving licence which enables them to drive manual transmission vehicles.
