About The Role

At WWT we believe the best way for people to understand and connect to wetlands is to experience them, so we bring awe-inspiring nature up close and let it do the talking. People feel part of something amazing and are motivated to make a difference.

We are looking for a creative and proactive Digital Content Creator Volunteer to help bring the London Wetland Centre to life online. You’ll spend time out on the wetlands capturing engaging photo and video content, with a particular focus on short-form videos.

You’ll help us showcase the wildlife, wetlands, events, and visitor experiences at our unique Barnes site, while helping us connect with new audiences across Instagram and Facebook. You’ll work closely with the Marketing Officer at London Wetland Centre, contributing creative ideas and helping to shape our short-form video content.

Volunteers are an essential part of the WWT team, and we wouldn’t be able to maintain our internationally important wetland sites without their help. You will receive a very warm welcome, full induction & training, and be provided with any necessary equipment, uniforms, and anything else needed to thrive in your role.

Main tasks

  • Capturing engaging photo and video content across the London Wetland Centre, showcasing wildlife, wetlands, events and visitor experiences
  • Creating and editing short-form videos, particularly Instagram Reels, using Canva and CapCut
  • Coming up with creative ideas for Reels concepts and new ways to tell stories about the centre online
  • Spotting seasonal, wildlife and event-based opportunities for social media content
  • Helping plan and organise upcoming content using our content planner
  • Working with the Marketing Officer to support our social media content and help connect more people with wetlands and wildlife

About You

No previous experience is required for this role as full training will be provided, and a willingness to learn new skills is more important.

This role would suit you if:

  • You are creative, proactive and enjoy telling stories through photography and video
  • You are excited by the opportunity to get out around the wetlands, spot interesting content opportunities and turn them into engaging social media content
  • You have some experience creating photo and/or video content, particularly short-form video for platforms such as Instagram
  • You are comfortable using Canva and CapCut (or similar preferred platforms)
  • You have access to your own smartphone or camera
  • You are organised, happy to contribute ideas and confident using social media
  • You have an interest in wildlife, nature or conservation
  • You are happy to follow WWT’s social media and marketing policies and guidelines when creating and sharing content as part of your volunteering

Additional notes

  • This role is not suitable for people under 18 years.
  • Availability at weekends and during school holidays would be particularly helpful as this is when we run most of our events and programming, and there are often lots of opportunities to capture content.

About Us

We are WWT, and we’re on a mission to restore the super-powered ecosystems we call wetlands. There’s never been a more important moment for our work, and we’ve got some phenomenal people on the case.

Whether you’re looking to meet new people, learn new skills or spend time in our wildlife-rich wetlands, there’s a volunteer role for you. Just a few hours spent volunteering can really make a world of difference to our wildlife, and to you.

So, come surround yourself with the wonder of wetlands, and the people who inject their energy and passion into them. Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. The only question left is, what role will you play?

Why you’ll love volunteering at WWT

  • Make a real contribution to the conservation and engagement work of WWT
  • Work at one of our beautiful and internationally important wetland sites
  • Be surrounded and inspired by like-minded nature lovers who bring energy, passion, and expertise to their role
