About The Role

Are you a motivated senior People leader wanting to shape the people and workforce strategy of a leading conservation charity?

Are you excited by the challenge of organisational development, helping to create an ever more thriving workplace?

Do you have the depth of knowledge and skill to guide our charity through the increasingly complex employment landscape?

Do you enjoy variety, a values-led culture and an organisation wanting to move at pace?

We are WWT, the wetland charity – we’re on a mission to restore wetlands and unlock their power. And we are now looking for someone to lead our People Team in nurturing the skilled, diverse and high-performing workforce needed to deliver our strategy.

Our Head of People leads WWT’s human resources, training and development, early careers and volunteering functions. Reporting to the Director of Finance & Support Services the role is a member of the Charity’s senior leadership group.

You will act as strategic business partner to the Executive Leadership Team and ensure high-quality delivery of HR and volunteering services to the Charity’s 450 employees, 200 casual workers and 1,000 volunteers.

If you are looking to develop your HR career in a rewarding senior people leadership role within the charity sector, we want to hear from you.

About You

To be considered for Head of People, you will need:
  • A degree or professional qualification in a relevant discipline
  • To have experience of leading a People/HR team at scale in a complex organisation
  • To be able to advise on and support senior management with strategic organisational change
  • The drive to develop and continually improve HR operations and interventions
  • To have highly-developed communication, influencing and organisational skills
  • An excellent understanding of UK employment law, regulation and HR best practice
This role and People team are based at WWT HQ in Slimbridge. The role benefits from WWT's approach to hybrid working with expected attendance at Slimbridge of 2 days per week. On occasion, travel to WWT's centres located across the UK and NI will be required.

Advertised as full-time, applicants wanting to work 4 days a week or compressed hours are also encouraged to apply.

Whether they’re taking a new visitor under their wing, or conducting ground-breaking research further afield, our team are second to none. And there’s nothing we love more than watching them soar.

Whatever you do here, you’ll be helping to restore wetlands and unlock their power. So, the only question left is, what role will you play?

Why you’ll love working at WWT
  • Wake up every day knowing your work is helping to restore wetlands, and our world
  • Be surrounded and inspired by our team of passionate, dedicated people
  • 33 days annual leave (which goes up to 38 days after 5 years of service) – this includes bank holidays and you have flexibility to take those days whenever you want

  • Free car parking and secure bike storage areas
  • Colleague discount on shopping and memberships
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • Life Assurance of three times your salary, for peace of mind for your loved ones
