About The Role

This is a hands-on role at the heart of our wetland centre, helping to keep WWT Llanelli safe, welcoming, and inspiring for visitors, staff, and wildlife. You’ll lead on the day-to-day maintenance of our buildings, habitats, and outdoor spaces – from hides and pathways to play areas and nature reserves – making sure everything is well cared for and ready to enjoy.

You’ll supervise volunteers and contractors, work closely with our conservation and living collections teams, and use a wide range of tools and machinery to deliver practical site improvements. No two days are the same, and your work will directly support wildlife, visitor experiences, and the long-term health of our wetlands.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys outdoor, practical work and wants to make a real difference. In return, you’ll be part of a passionate team, develop valuable conservation and facilities skills, and play a key role in helping WWT restore wetlands and unlock their power for people and nature.

 Working pattern & travel:

This is an annualised hours contract based on an average of 33 hours per week.  Salary will be paid in equal monthly amounts.

Hours may vary through the seasons. This position will require work at weekends and some bank holidays.

This is a site-based role at WWT Llanelli Wetland Centre and is not suitable for hybrid working due to its practical, hands-on nature.

full driving licence is desirable for occasional travel to other WWT locations or to collect equipment and materials.

About You

You'll have:
  • A strong practical background in site, facilities, or grounds maintenance, including the safe use of tools and machinery

  • Experience of habitat or grounds management, such as vegetation control, invasive species management, or habitat enhancement

  • An ability to maintain, service, and carry out basic repairs on equipment, vehicles, and tools

  • Experience of coordinating or delivering small-scale projects within set timescales and resources

  • Good communication and teamwork skills, with a positive, hands-on approach

  • Strong awareness of health and safety in outdoor, practical working environments

  • A genuine passion for nature conservation and sustainable site management

In addition to the above, you will be confident in supervising and supporting volunteers, contractors, or seasonal staff.
