About The Role

An exciting opportunity to work within a dedicated team at one of the UK's finest nature reserves. Situated on the west bank of the River Severn our network of wetland habitats compliment the intertidal zone to provide a major sanctuary. Join us and share in our mission to restore wetlands, unlock their power and help nature burst back to life. 

Key Responsibilities of the role include:

  • Contributing to the management of habitats and species present on the WWT Slimbridge reserve ensuring full compliance with all regulations and conditions including those specifically relating to the site’s protected status agri-environmental agreements.

  • Assisting in the operation and maintenance of site infrastructure in line with agreed procedures and guidelines including paths, hides/observatories, fencing, water level control structures, waymarking, interpretation and all further infrastructure which may be added to the estate.

  • Support the design and implementation of the site’s conservation management plan and providing annual reports on reserve management and key species.

  • Undertaking species and habitat monitoring required for management of the reserve as detailed in the management plan.

  • Deputising for the Reserve Manager in representing WWT with our landlord, graziers and other official bodies on reserve matters.
This is a permanent, full time position, working 37.5 hours per week and will include some weekends and bank holidays.

About You

To join as our Assistant Reserve Manager you'll bring:

  • Certification in a selection of tools and machinery to include Tractors and attachments, 4X4, ATV, Loaders, Excavators, Dumper, MEWP, Chainsaw, Pollarding, Knapsack sprayers and Brush cutters.
  • A current driving license.
  • Extensive and demonstrable experience of managing large areas of land under conservation objectives.
  • Excellent field skills in at least one major group (botanical, birds, invertebrates etc)
  • Experience of developing and implementing site management plans and monitoring programs
  • Great people skills with experience of managing and working with colleagues, volunteers and agricultural contractors
