About The Role

The Wildfowl & Wetlands Trust (WWT) is a globally respected, UK-based conservation charity that protects wetlands for wildlife and people. We conserve, restore and create wetlands. We are pioneers in saving wetland wildlife. We have been working in Madagascar for over ten years, at the national and regional levels, and at several sites in the central plateau wetlands of Sofia Region, balancing conservation with sustainable livelihoods and empowering local stakeholders to manage their wetlands and adapt to climate change.

This role will lead a small project team to work with MEDD and FAPBM to develop a novel small grants mechanism for ecosystems-based adaptations to climate change, and pilot the fund among community wetland managers in selected sites in Madagascar. This role will report to the Country Manager and will liaise closely with colleagues in the UK.

This is a full time fixed term contract for 2 years working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday. The role is based at the WWT office in Antananarivo and will require some travel to our field sites.

To join our team in WWT Madagascar as our Project Coordinator you'll:
  • be educated to master’s degree or equivalent, preferably in a relevant environmental or social science
  • have experience of managing conservation or development projects of at least 300m MGA annually
  • have proven experience and expertise in bottom-up and participatory approaches to development and/or conservation, particularly the empowerment of communities to find solutions to their own problems
  • have demonstrable experience of providing grants or other funding to local communities would be a significant asset.
You should also know how to prepare and undertake monitoring monitoring, budget planning, staff and consultant management, and preparation of technical reports for donors and project partners. Fluency in written and spoken Malagasy, French and English are preferred.
