About The Role

WWT Madagascar is looking to strengthen its team by recruiting a Senior Project Officer (GIS & Data Management). The person will support the development and implementation/enhancement of an interactive Wetlands Data Portal by assisting in data integration, user experience improvement (user- friendly interface), and technical documentation.

The main functions of the post are to
  • Assist in gathering and analysing data related to wetlands from various sources.
  • Review the various tools/languages used to implement features and functionality for Portal development.
  • Conduct basic coding and debugging tasks under the supervision of the consultants.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with one of the world's leading charities working to promote the wise use of wetlands and wetland biodiversity, as part of a dynamic and growing team in Madagascar but with support from WWT experts in the UK.

The successful candidate will receive a competitive remuneration package and working conditions, and the opportunity to help shape the WWT Madagascar Programme as it grows in scope and ambition to help protected and restore wetlands and unlock their powers!
 
This is a full time, fixed term contract for 2 years, working 37.5 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
 


About You

Your Experience:

  • You will have a degree in geography, geographic information systems, information technology or a geo-physical science
  • A higher degree or similar in geographic information systems, information technology or a geo-physical science would be a distinct advantage
  • Familiarity with databases such as SQL or NoSQL.#
  • Skills in data management and analysis
  • Effective communication and teamwork abilities
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
This post will suit a mid-career GIS professional ordatabase manager with an attention to detail who is able to work as part of a dynamic, multi-cultural team. You are able to work independently and to take the initiative when required. You will be willing to learn new skills quickly, and have a client-focused attitude. Above all, you will have a love of nature and concern for the preservation and wise use of wetland nature.
